S Tier — Buy on sight when affordable
Next shop sponge you can afford without zeroing cash. From account creation through mid-game, the single best sponge purchase is almost always the next tier in the linear shop list. Scrub speed is the gate for everything: rinse, polish, placement, and worker efficiency later.
First major sponge jump after tutorial. The initial upgrade from the default sponge is S-tier even if soap looks tempting. Players who skip this jump report the longest early grind — not because the game is hard, but because the wash loop stays manual too long.
Any sponge tier that unlocks before your first worker wave. If you can afford a sponge upgrade or your first worker, sponge usually wins unless you already scrub faster than you can carry batches to the plot. When in doubt, time one full wash cycle; if scrubbing is more than half the loop, stay on sponges.
A Tier — Strong, buy soon after S-tier targets
Mid-tier sponges in the second price band. Once early sponges feel fast, the next two or three tiers remain A-tier because incremental simulators front-load speed gains. Delay these only if you need plot cash for a mandatory slot unlock — rare in the opening hour.

That is B-tier: viable if the bigger tier’s speed gain is disproportionately high, trap if you stall hours earning the difference. Only skip when the speed curve visibly jumps on the preview stat.
Sponge tier bought while soap is still default. If rinse and polish take longer than scrubbing, a sponge alone is B-tier until you add the first meaningful soap upgrade from the Soap Tier List.
Late sponge when workers do 80% of washing. Automation shifts sponges from S to B because your personal scrub time matters less. Still upgrade eventually — workers scale off your tool baseline — but workers and plot income may outrank one more sponge for a session.
C Tier — Luxury or rebirth-window purchases
Max sponge tier right before a planned rebirth. If rebirth is one session away, dumping every coin into the final sponge instead of triggering rebirth can be C-tier. Multipliers often beat one more incremental scrub bonus.
Duplicate cosmetic sponge variants. If the shop sells skins or color variants without a speed stat change, treat them as C-tier flex purchases.
